Looking for fun, free (or nearly free) activities for children this summer? Check out our list of London-based events that won’t break the bank.

1. Get active with sports for children in North London. The Access to Sports Project is a charity that offers free physical activities for children. Open to families from Hackney, Haringey and Islington, they run tennis, multi-sports and netball sessions throughout the summer. There is also a SEND class that is open to all ages and abilities.

2. Dive into a summer of art. The National Gallery’s programme of hands-on art activities is a real treat. Create your own artwork; immerse yourself in an augmented reality experience; explore play boxes—there is something for everyone to enjoy. All completely free.

3. Mini-golf for your mini people. This colourful nine-hole golf course is one for the kids and the grown-ups. Head to Montgomery Square in Canary Wharf and pick up your club and balls from an event steward. Perfect for families, this one-of-a-kind course is free.

4. Say hello to your favourite creatures. Tucked away in the delightful Golders Hill Park, this hidden gem is home to ring-tailed lemurs and wallabies. It’s free, making it a truly affordable day out.

5. Get more for your money with your train ticket. National Rail regularly offers discounts on days out. Although there are no freebies, many promotions include significant discounts on popular attractions. Best of all—it’s a nationwide initiative, meaning it is not just Londoners who benefit. Families from across the U.K. can take advantage of the savings.
