As we move into the final weeks of summer, we have lots of exciting August updates, opportunities and events to share with our Home-Start Camden & Islington community. From welcoming new volunteers and supporting families through our upcoming activities, to celebrating achievements and preparing for the months ahead, there are many ways to get involved.

We’re Looking for New Family Support Volunteers

Do you want to make a real difference to local families? We are currently looking for new Family Support Volunteers to join our next training course, starting on Wednesday 1st October at our office in Kentish Town. Our volunteer training will run from 10:00am – 2:30pm for seven weeks, finishing on 19th November, with a break during half term on 29th October.

Our Family Support Volunteers are at the heart of what we do, we are looking for people who want to support families first and foremost, offering kindness, encouragement and a listening ear when families need it most.

If you would like to find out more about becoming a volunteer, please contact us at info@homestartcamden.org

We’re Also Recruiting a Social Media Volunteer

Are you creative, proactive and passionate about communications? We are looking for a Social Media Volunteer to support our communications team.

This is an office-based role for 7 hours once a week on Wednesdays, with occasional opportunities to attend and capture content at our events. We’re looking for someone who enjoys creating content, is confident using Canva and CapCut, and isn’t camera shy.

This role has been incredibly popular and has helped volunteers develop valuable communications experience. In fact, our previous Social Media Volunteer is now a member of our staff team!

If this sounds like you, please contact Eleni at eleni@homestartcamden.org.

Please also share these volunteering opportunities with your friends, family and wider networks. You never know who might be looking for a chance to make a difference.

Help Us Raise Funds for Local Families

This October, we will be taking part in the Regent’s Park 5K & 10K Run 2026 to raise vital funds for local families.

We would love our supporters, volunteers, partners and friends to join Team Home-Start. Whether you run, jog or walk, every step will help us continue supporting families across Camden and Islington.

You can take part by joining our team through the registration link here or contact us for more information. You can also find our fundraising page here and more information for this event right here.

Annual Family Picnic – Join Us!

We are excited to welcome our families and volunteers to our Annual Family Picnic at Parliament Hill Park on 19th August, from 12:30pm – 2:30pm.

It will be a lovely afternoon of connection, laughter and fun, with plenty of food, drinks and games for everyone to enjoy. We can’t wait to spend time together and celebrate our wonderful Home-Start community. Please contact your Family Liaison Manager to book your spot!

New Online Wellbeing Sessions Coming Soon

From September, Anna will be starting weekly 30-minute breathing and gentle stretching sessions online via Zoom. These sessions will offer a calm moment during the week to pause, relax and focus on wellbeing. The start date will be confirmed soon.

If you would like to register your interest, please contact Anna at anna@homestartcamden.org.

Clothes Bank in Partnership with Reformation Charity

On 13th August, we will be hosting a clothes bank in collaboration with Reformation Charity, giving families the opportunity to access free clothing.

Families are warmly invited to come along to our Kentish Town office at 7 Dowdney Cl, London NW5 2BP from 11:00am to choose clothes that they need.

We hope to see many of our you there!

Supporting Children’s School Readiness

In July, we completed our BHBF project, and from September we will be organising our next training.

School readiness is an important part of helping children feel confident, secure and prepared as they begin their educational journey. Starting school is a big transition for children and families, and having the right support can help children develop key skills such as communication, independence, emotional wellbeing and positive relationships.

We will be sharing more information about this work soon.

The Winch Parenting Course Returns in September

Our popular The Winch Parenting Course will be returning in September.

This is a 10-week programme designed to support parents and carers, with crèche support available. It provides a welcoming space for parents to learn, share experiences and build confidence.

For more information, please contact Natasha at natasha@homestartcamden.org.

Thank you to everyone who continues to be part of our Home-Start Camden & Islington community. Whether you volunteer your time, attend our events, take part in fundraising or share our opportunities with others, your support helps us continue being there for local families.

We look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming activities and events.
