What we offer

Becoming a Home Start Volunteer

Becoming a Home-Start volunteer is an incredibly rewarding experience. You will be able to give back to your community and change the lives of parents and children. Our volunteers revealed these experiences have changed their lives, giving them new skills and the satisfaction of helping parents recovered.

If you would like to change lives in Camden and Islington contact us to find out more.

You can listen to two of our volunteers discussing their experiences of volunteering and supporting families for Home-Start Camden & Islington via this link.

Preparation Course Training

All volunteers receive 6 days of Preparation Course Training. We also provide regular support sessions and further expert training.

Our volunteers always tell us they love the training and it makes them feel prepared encouraging them to give best family support.

Once volunteers have successfully completed the training and completed safeguarding checks and references, they are ready to be placed with a family.   Eventually, they will visit a family once a week for 3 – 4 hours, for as long as help is required.  We encourage our volunteers to commit to HSC&I for at least 12 months initially.

Support for Volunteers

We always make sure our volunteers get everything they need from working with us and support them through their journey with Home-Start.

Each volunteer is supported by one of our staff members – Jackie, Anna, Natasha or Saiqa. They conduct regular supervision with volunteers to see how things are going and to talk about the support being offered to families.

We always ensure our volunteers are learning and growing through new skills and training.

“I was new to the country and very shy. I was scared of using the transport links. My volunteering with HSCI has given me my ticket to freedom. Built up my confidence. Helped me navigate London and empower myself.”

“If it was not for HSCI I would not have got my degree. My FLM was my mentor and helped me believe in myself and know I have a degree and a high paid job. I would not be where I am if it was not for HSCI.”

“It’s a huge privilege to volunteer for Home Start– people letting you into their life. It’s been a humbling experience as well as an eye opener. I have been able to build on my listening skills that I learned at another charity. Volunteering for Home Start means so much to me.”
