Volunteers at Home-Start Camden

There are several ways that you can help Home-Start Camden in a voluntary capacity:

  • by supporting a family as a home-visiting volunteer
  • by helping us with fundraising events
  • by helping us with publicity, marketing and communications
  • by becoming a trustee

Home-Start Camden and Islington has to raise its own funds to keep running our family support services.  One way we do this is via events that we organise or by encouraging others to do sponsored events on our behalf.  We are looking for volunteers to help us with these fundraising activities such as our Bangla Banquet, salsa evenings and other events.  If you would like to join our Event Fundraising Group please contact us.

Home-Start Camden and Islington’s family support volunteers come from many different backgrounds and vary in age but all are either parents themselves or have parenting experience. All volunteers attend a preparation course before being matched with a family. They then take their own individual skills and experience to the families they visit. Read more on our home-visiting volunteer information page.

“I have been a Home-Start volunteer for the past year and it has had such a positive impact on the family I visit weekly and also for me personally. It is incredible how much of a difference just a couple of hours chatting with Mum or playing with a toddler can make. It’s hugely rewarding and a great privilege.”

Christine, a Home-Start Volunteer

The Home-Start Camden & Islington Management Committee is made up of local people from a wide range of backgrounds. The main requirements of a trustee are a real interest in the family support work we undertake and a willingness to be involved and active in the running of the charity. The committee ensures correct governance and is responsible for the financial security of the organisation.

“Home-Start is unique in Camden and provides a first rate service. We know that to many families we are a lifeline.  At the heart of what we do are our volunteers, many of whom do sterling work in helping families with immensely difficult problems. We are delighted to be celebrating our 20th Anniversary this year and hope to be empowering Camden parents to be the best parents they can be for their children in their community.”

Elizabeth Sturgeon

Former Co-Chair of Home-Start Camden Board of Trustees
