Meet the Trustees

Sally Barwell- Chair

Sally has been volunteering with Home-Start since 2020 starting as a trained family visitor in Kent. On moving to London in 2022, she spent 2 years supporting Home Start Camden & Islington as an office volunteer before joining the Board of Trustees. As a Trustee, Sally has been a member of the governance committee and played a key role in overseeing the Home Start UK accreditation process.

After completing her degree in Social administration she had a career in Social Housing working for the government and Orbit Housing Group as Development Manager. A move to Sydney saw her work as a Policy Officer in Urban Affairs and Planning. Her journey then took her to Queensland joining Queensland Shelter as a Senior Policy Officer working in advocacy, research and policy in particular working with the Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander Communities. She also spent 8 years living in the UAE.

Sally is one of 7 siblings and a Mum to two girls and a boy, and really believes in the vital lifeline that Home Start can become to any parent or carer.

She is committed to bringing effective governance to the board, upholding ethical standards and ensuring that the Board can meet the challenges faced by the third sector.

Ian Jesnick- Trustee

I am a parent with two children, both born in Camden. I moved to the borough of Camden in 1984, and have lived in Hampstead, West Hampstead and Swiss Cottage, where I currently reside.

Apart from being a Trustee at Home-Start Camden and Islington for four years, I was also a Governor of a special needs school for children with severe and profound learning disabilities in Camden for 10 years.

Additionally, I am a strategic communications, marketing and media training consultant. Recently, I have retired from my position as CEO of Richmond Towers Communications, one of the UK’s leading independent marketing communications agencies.

Over the years I have worked with a number of clients from large multinationals to SMEs and start-ups. This includes providing strategic and tactical marketing and communications consultancy, media training, thought leadership and issues/crisis management support. I have also been a consultant to a number of charities/NGOs, including the Wine and Spirit Benevolent, The Food Foundation and the UK Parent Teachers’ Association

Clare House- Trustee

I have lived in Kentish Town for over 30 years, raised 3 children and been involved as chair of the parents’ association at their primary and secondary schools. I was a parent governor at Camden School for Girls.

I’ve been involved with Home Start for over 15 years, mainly as a volunteer working directly with a number of families. I also helped with some of the fundraising events and then became a trustee.

I am also a volunteer for Twins Trust (previously called TAMBA) answering calls on their helpline, and currently work part-time as administrator for a consultant psychiatrist”.

Yoshiaki Sasamura- Trustee

Following a 40-year career in global finance, I recently retired from banking to focus on charitable work, personal interests, and family. I’m particularly keen to apply my financial and governance experience to support the vital work of charities.

After spending 21 years in New York, my wife and I relocated to London in 2021 and chose to settle in Islington. Born in Tokyo and educated entirely in the UK, I’ve long valued the importance of strong community ties — particularly after living in a close-knit New York neighbourhood where we were actively involved in local community activities.

We have two sons, both born in London — one now lives in Tokyo, the other in London. As a father, I understand the challenges families face and the transformative impact that early support can have on a child’s development. That’s why I’m deeply committed to the mission of Home-Start Camden and Islington, and proud to contribute to its work as a trustee.

Jacqueline Moreton – Trustee

I am a qualified solicitor and have worked in-house in the media industry for over 25 years, working in London and New York. I headed up the international corporate transactional team at Viacom in London and was seconded by Viacom to the Sundance Channel in New York as EVP of Legal and Business Affairs. On returning to London I was the Head of Legal and Business Affairs at Fremantle UK and subsequently moved to head the legal team in international production at NBC Universal. Until December 2020 Jacqueline was the Global General Counsel at Fremantle, the multi-national TV production and distribution company.

I completed the Financial Times Non-Executive diploma in 2021 and have extensive experience in corporate governance, having been a director on over 20 company boards.

I have two adult daughters and live in the Highbury and Islington area.

Georgina Trevor – Trustee

I joined Home-Start Camden & Islington as a trustee in February 2019, keen to be a part of a local charity making a difference in the lives of young children and their families. Since joining, I have been involved in HR function and safeguarding responsibilities within the charity, as well being on the marketing and communications sub-committee team.

I work as a member of the management team across two private nurseries in North London. I originally studied the arts, first at Chelsea College of Arts, and then Glasgow School of Art where I obtained a BA (Hons). Upon graduation, I spent a decade working in fine art, focusing on conservation, framing, art handling and installation,

Whilst on maternity leave, I studied for a Masters in Early Years Education at UCL’s Institute of Education, completing my studies in 2017. I have a continued interest in creative approaches to learning for children age 0-5 years and have recently contributed to a chapter published in Transforming Early Childhood in England: Towards a Democratic Education (edited by Claire Cameron and Peter Moss, UCL Press 2020).

Amanda Goddard- Trustee

I am a solicitor working across employment, child licensing safeguarding for production companies, gdpr issues, contracting, compliance and governance as well copyright and production. I live in Camden and work in Islington.

I am a mother of 2 (6 year old and 3 year old) and my interest in the charity came about after I had amazing support from health care worker when I suffered from severe post-natal depression whilst having no family support in London at that time. I really would have benefited from a service like Home-Start Camden and Islington offers and I regret not knowing of their existence at the time.

I immigrated from Canada as a child with my mother who was a single parent and raised me without support, relying on benefits to make ends meet. In my early 30s I volunteered for Friendship Works, who pair children and adults for additional support. I was then helping my health care workers to organise Christmas gifts for families in homeless and in temporary shelter. I realised I wanted to do more than just help at Christmas so looked into charities that helped young families and found Home-Start Camden and Islington.

Michael Sanderson- Trustee

I believe every person has the potential to grow, thrive, and live well, and that with the right support, especially early on, that potential can be realised. That belief has shaped my work across health and education, and it’s what drew me to Home-Start.

In my role as project, programme, and change manager for the NHS, I focus on prevention and health inequalities, and I have seen just how powerful preventative, community-based support can be: early, meaningful engagement is critical. Home-Start’s approach reaches families where support is most effective – in their homes and communities – and provides it early on, before problems escalate.

I believe that serving your community is a great responsibility, and one that creates the opportunity to make a real difference. Since moving to Camden in 2022, after several years working abroad in Europe and Latin America, I’ve looked for ways to contribute locally. Becoming a trustee for Home-Start allows me to do that in a meaningful way, by supporting the team’s vital work with families across Camden and Islington.

Lesley Hynes- Trustee

I am a professional fundraiser and have been fundraising for small to medium-sized charities for over 30 years in various consultancies including my own, and now in my own company, Lesley Hynes Fundraising. Throughout my fundraising career, I have been impressed with the Home-Start model, and my company has fundraised for three schemes. I have been struck by the dedication of the trustees and the small teams who deliver the work.

Four generations of my family lived on the Caledonian Road in Islington. My mum was brought up there, and I like to think if Home-Start Camden and Islington had existed back then when she was a child, she may have benefitted from our charity.
