At Home-Start Camden & Islington, we support families from all backgrounds regardless of sex, race, religion, or identity. We do not just see you, we celebrate you. In honour of Pride Month, we are using this space to explore LGBTQ+ parenting and to celebrate the many different ways families are formed. In addition, we want to highlight Pride Month as a time that promotes inclusion, equality, and visibility for LGBTQ+ communities.
What is Pride Month?
Pride Month takes place every June and celebrates the LGBTQ+ community, its history, achievements, and ongoing journey toward equality and inclusion.
During this month, communities around the world host educational events, awareness campaigns, and Pride parades. As a result, Pride Month creates space for both celebration and reflection. Importantly, it also reminds us that continued progress and support for LGBTQ+ people still matter.
The history of Pride Month
Pride Month commemorates the Stonewall Uprising in June 1969 in New York City. At that time, police raids and harassment targeted the Stonewall Inn. However, members of the LGBTQ+ community resisted, and this sparked protests.
Because of these events, a wider movement for LGBTQ+ rights grew across the world. Today, we recognise Pride Month as a global celebration of identity, equality, and community.
London Pride Parade 2026
London will host one of its most anticipated Pride events on Saturday 4 July 2026.
The parade begins near Hyde Park, then moves along Park Lane and continues towards Whitehall. Throughout the day, people come together to enjoy music, colour, culture, and community spirit. Therefore, it offers a powerful celebration of inclusion and diversity. Everyone is welcome to attend.
What is LGBTQ+ parenting?
LGBTQ+ parenting refers to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and other LGBTQ+ people raising children and building families.

LGBTQ+ people become parents in many different ways. For example, they may give birth, adopt, foster children, use surrogacy, access donor conception, or raise children within blended families.
Importantly, LGBTQ+ parenting works just like all parenting. It centres on love, care, guidance, and support. In addition, LGBTQ+ families come in many forms and each family looks different. What matters most is that children grow up in safe, stable, and nurturing environments where they feel loved, respected, and able to thrive.
At Home-Start Camden & Islington, we actively support all families to achieve this.
