River Lee Country Park
(Stratford, London to Broxbourne in 30 minutes)
The River Lee Country Park has over 1000 acres of farmland, waterways and walking routes. On the border of Hertfordshire and Essex, the park offers a wealth of activities for families. In the summer months, Cornmill Meadows buzz with life as a sanctuary for dragonflies. Explore the Lee Valley Wildlife Discovery Centre and climb its tower to experience incredible views of the Seventy Acre Lake.
Epping Forest
(London Liverpool Street to Chingford in 27 minutes)
Nestled in between Essex and London, Epping Forest is home to nearly 6000 acres of historical woodland and sunlit glades. With great transport connections, Epping Forest is easily accessible for families looking to stretch their legs and get back to nature. The forest has over 200 kilometres of shared-use paths, making it an ideal place to explore by bike. Go Further Cycling offers bikes for hire and is located near Chingford Station.
Margate
(London St Pancras to Margate in 1 hour and 29 minutes)
A traditional sea-side town with a twist, Margate is fabulous for daytrippers. The town has long sandy beaches, perfect for sunbathing with an ice cream or fish and chips. Opposite Main Sands is Dreamland, a world-class tourist attraction open in the spring and summer months. Free to enter, Dreamland has roller coasters, arcades and ticketed concerts. Looking for a little more culture? The Turner Contemporary Gallery has free entry and runs free workshops for children.
